Sizing & Condition
Vintage clothing was cut and sized much differently than modern clothing. The size tag may not reflect modern day sizing.
Vintage garments can be fragile — wearing something that is too tight can damage the garment. Keep in mind, if your waist measures 26" and the waist of your dress measures 26" you are going to be squeezed into it! Allow some room to breathe, sit down, eat, etc.
Many vintage garments are not lined. They were made to be worn with proper undergarments such as slips, etc. All sizes shown on garments in photos, in item titles or in item descriptions are approximate. Please use measurements for a more accurate idea of fit. Measurements are taken with garment lying flat. All shoe sizes listed are an estimate.
How We Measure Our Garments
Clothing is taken with garment lying flat and unstretched on a hard surface.
Shoulder
From shoulder seam to shoulder seam, at the very top of the garment (not across the middle back).
Bust
At widest point of chest, from pit to pit. If Dolman sleeves, we take an approximation of chest size.
Ribs
Below the bust, at the top of the rib cage, where a bra band would sit, doubled.
Bodice
From top of shoulder, down front of garment to waistband — especially important if you have a short or long torso.
Sleeve
Along the outer edge of the sleeve from shoulder seam to end of cuff.
Waist
At the narrowest point, or for loose-hanging garments, at the approximate natural waistline.
Hips
Usually 8–9" below natural waist.
Length
From shoulder top to bottom of hem.
Skirt Length
From top of waistband to hem edge.
Hem Sweep
Across bottom of fully-extended skirt.
Shoes
Please note: Many vintage shoes may run smaller than modern sizing.
Length
On interior from tippy toe (where, in pointy shoes, no human toe actually reaches!) along insole to heel.
Width
On interior across widest point of the ball of the foot.
Heel Height
At back of shoe from floor to top of heel.
Condition Guide
Our condition descriptions are general guidelines meant to provide an overall assessment of each piece. We intentionally err on the side of caution by noting flaws generously to help avoid any unexpected surprises for our customers.
A true collector's find. These are vintage pieces that were never sold or worn, often retaining their original tags, labels, or packaging. Deadstock offers the rare opportunity to own a garment exactly as it was when it first left the boutique decades ago.
This vintage piece has been beautifully preserved and remains in exceptional condition for its age. It may show little to no evidence of previous wear, with no significant flaws to note.
A vintage piece with light signs of age or gentle wear that are consistent with its history. Any notable imperfections will be clearly documented in the listing and photographs.
This piece remains wearable and full of character but exhibits visible signs of age, wear, or repair. All condition details will be carefully photographed and described so you can shop with confidence.
This item is no longer considered wearable in its current condition but still holds value for restoration, repurposing, costume design, textile projects, or pattern making. Please review the photographs and description carefully.
